¡Hola! I'm Mila Fernández
Bridging Cultures Through Language, Learning & Connection
When I founded the Dublin Institute of Spanish, I wanted to create something different: a place where learning Spanish feels personal, meaningful, and genuinely transformative.
Too often, language education follows a rigid, one-size-fits-all model. My philosophy is the opposite. Every student brings their own goals, experiences, strengths, and challenges, and I believe teaching should adapt to the learner — not the other way around.
Whether you are a professional developing your confidence in Business Spanish, an adult learner preparing for travel or relocation, or a student aiming for success in the Junior Cycle or Leaving Certificate, my role is to guide you with expertise, structure, and encouragement at every stage of your journey.
As a linguist, educator, and psychopedagogical specialist, I combine academic rigour with a highly personalised approach. My aim is not simply to teach vocabulary and grammar, but to help students communicate naturally, think confidently, and connect deeply with the Spanish-speaking world.
A Modern, Personalised Methodology
I design lessons that are dynamic, relevant, and tailored to real people living in the real world. While strong linguistic foundations remain essential, I move beyond static textbook learning to create classes that feel engaging, practical, and alive.
For adult learners, this means developing authentic communication skills, cultural understanding, and the confidence to use Spanish naturally in professional, social, and travel contexts.
For teenagers preparing for the Irish curriculum, it means building the structure, discipline, and self-belief needed to achieve strong academic results while also enjoying the learning process.
The Gold Standard
I am an Official DELE Examiner (A1-C2) certified by Instituto Cervantes. I don’t just teach the exam; I know exactly what the examiners are looking for.
Academic Rigour:
I hold a BA (Hons) in Educational Psychology and a University Master’s Degree in Spanish as a Foreign Language.
100% Native Expertise:
Born and raised in Spain, I bring the authentic rhythm, accent, and cultural nuances of the language to every lesson.
Garda Vetted & Teen-Approved
With extensive experience in teenage education, I know how to transform "school-subject boredom" into genuine interest and exam-day confidence.
High Standards in a Supportive Environment
At the heart of the Institute is a balance between academic excellence and human connection. I believe students thrive when expectations are high but support is equally strong.
I strive to create an environment where learners feel challenged, encouraged, and understood — a space where mistakes are part of growth, curiosity is welcomed, and confidence develops naturally over time.
Innovation in Service of Learning
Innovation is a central part of my educational philosophy. I actively integrate Artificial Intelligence and modern educational technologies into my teaching practice in thoughtful, purposeful ways that genuinely support language acquisition.
Rather than using AI as a shortcut, I teach students how to use it as an intelligent learning partner — helping them develop autonomy, critical thinking, creativity, and real communicative confidence in Spanish.
I design custom AI-supported learning experiences including interactive storybooks, guided conversation prompts, personalised speaking practice, and Socratic-style activities that encourage students to think, reflect, and actively engage with the language instead of passively consuming information.
My approach combines the best of both worlds: the warmth and expertise of human teaching with the possibilities offered by innovative technology.
By staying at the forefront of educational innovation, I can offer students a learning experience that feels modern, dynamic, highly personalised, and deeply relevant to the way we learn and communicate today.
Reviews and Testimonials

Professional & passionate in the teaching of her Spanish language & Incredibly affordable. My son is attending regarding Leaving Cert Honours level and loves it. My only criticism is that her classes tend to run over the allotted time 😊 which re-enforces how incredibly genuine and caring Mila is. We couldn’t recommend her enough.Posted on iseult cumminsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I highly recommend the Institute, Mila is a lovely teacher. I was nervous but she made me feel really relaxed. We covered a lot of material and it has motivated me to learn more myself. She tailored the classes to what I needed which was fantastic, I learned so much. Thank you Mila!Posted on Mary ConneelyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Mila is a great teacher and her classes will definitely improve your Spanish!Posted on Siobhan RocheTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been a student at the Dublin Institute of Spanish for the past three years. During that time, I have had excellent tuition from Mila. She prepares her lessons thoroughly and tailors them to your ability. She sets homework assignments and corrects them with you. I asked that a portion of my class would be devoted to conversation and we start each class now with a chat. Mila also provides a free conversation session on Zoom for pupils of the same level. I find the session really helpful. Recently, Mila prepared me for the B1 DELE exam. I passed it with her excellent guidance. I would highly recommend classes with the Dublin Institute of Spanish. Excellent teaching skills with clear and concise explanation for the student, no matter if the question is too big or small. Each session is met with a warm welcome and smile. Mila is also very accommodating with session times during my work schedules and I wish her the very best in the upcoming classes.Posted on pietro tedoneTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been having lessons with Mila for over two years now and I highly recommend her . Her lessons are very well organised on zoom and she has access to a wide range of resources which are incorporated into the lessons so that they are varied, interesting and practical. Mila goes over and beyond in and out of the lessons especially when I was preparing for the Dele B1 exam . Her help with the exam, particularly for the writing and oral sections were invaluable. Mila is very personable and down to earth and as such my Spanish conversation skills have vastly improved in a relaxed lesson environment. Mila always follows up the lesson with a summary of what I learned so that I can refer back to it as and when required. Again , I have no hesitation in recommending Mila for Spanish lessonsPosted on Desmond HickleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. An absolutely amazing couple of weeks spent learning Spanish. I needed to learn quite a large amount of Spanish before my leaving cert exam and was expecting to have to drop down to ordinary level, however thanks to Mila’s help I was able to get a rather good grade in higher which helped me to obtain my 500 points.
